Untold Power of Insurance: How Chaos, Data, and Mitigation Will Change Your Agency’s Future

Today In 5 Minutes Or Less (TLDR):
Dear Insurance Champions,
Most agency owners are stuck chasing the same shiny stuff as everyone else. Internet leads, big national accounts, "the next big thing." Here’s the deal: The real money is hiding in plain sight, and almost nobody’s grabbing it.
We've seen agencies go from $2.5M to $25M in a few years by fixing what everyone else ignores. Here’s what sets winners apart, and how you can do the same.
How to Spot, and Exploit, the Overlooked Goldmine
Stop Selling Like Everyone Else
If you’re just buying more leads and joining the same associations as every other agent, you’re stuck in the noise. Instead, ask: Where does your ideal client already hang out every day?
Example: Instead of competing online for contractors, hit every local plumbing supplier with BBQ and a quote pad. Barriers drop, conversations flow, and suddenly you’re riding a commercial line nobody else is even talking to. Free food for a quote? Works better than any click funnel we’ve seen 29:12.
Fix Pain Nobody Wants to Fix
Everybody hates filling out Accord forms. Everybody gripes about SOVs and going back and forth with carriers. The difference: Winners dig in and find a way to do the dirty work faster or smarter, then they market that difference like crazy 41:28.
Get Comfortable With Chaos
There are Chaos Muppets and Order Muppets. Magic happens when you pair your entrepreneurial energy (chaos) with someone obsessed with systems (order). Don’t try to “fix” chaos, pair up and let each person play their lane 08:00.
Act Before The Pain Hits
Most people wait until a problem blows up to fix it. Think wildfires, AC breakdowns, or upcoming commission cuts. If you start risk-mitigation conversations (with clients and underwriters) before the pain peaks, you win loyalty and price breaks nobody else gets 35:35.
Try This This Week
Find a Hidden Source: Identify one place your target business clients go every week (not online). Commit to showing up there and make at least three real connections.
Automate One Painful Step: Pick a task that slows your agency down every day (Accord forms, phone tag, quoting). Block two hours, go deep, and build a shortcut or process, then force it into daily use.
Pair Up: If you’re the ideas guy, find your process person (or vice versa). Draw a line, who owns chaos, who owns order, and let each of you run.
Prove You Solve the Big Problem: Go to one commercial client and outline exactly how you can drop their risk, and their costs, by 30%+ through a new approach. Bonus: Ask your carrier rep if they’ll underwrite a risk mitigation program.
Real talk: The agencies crushing it aren’t using some magic script or secret lead vendor. They’re looking where everyone else refuses to look…and they don’t stop digging.

The Real Cost of Desperate Hiring in Insurance Agencies
That cycle of scrambling to hire because someone suddenly left, it’s brutal. I’ve felt it myself. Someone resigns, or worse, just stops showing up, and now you’re desperate. When you’re in that spot, it’s easy to rush. You grab the next “available” person, just to fill the seat. But deep down, you know you’re taking a risk. More often than not, it backfires. Maybe they don’t fit your values. Maybe they start tearing at your team culture, quietly or not so quietly, and suddenly that one quick fix becomes its own big problem. But what do you do? You keep them, because there’s no one else in line. That’s when it really starts to unravel.
The best thing I ever learned was to always be recruiting. Not just when there’s an open seat, but every single week. Set time aside to interview. Even if you don’t need someone, even if it feels redundant, keep doing it. You’d be surprised how often unpredictability strikes, someone goes to lunch and never comes back. If you wait for that moment to start looking, you’re already behind.
Here’s the reality: our teams, our agencies, they live and die by the people in them. When we hold off on recruiting until our backs are against the wall, we put ourselves in a position to make decisions we later regret. We settle for a “warm body,” and it’s not just about productivity, it’s about the tone and feel of the whole agency. The culture gets hit, morale takes a dive, and sometimes good people leave just because someone wrong was allowed to stay too long.
So, make interviewing and networking a routine, not a reaction. Build a bench of talent, even if it feels like overkill. The hires you make before you “need” them are often your best, because you chose them with intention, not desperation. You’re in control, not the chaos. Even if it takes time, forming that habit is what keeps your agency sturdy, your culture healthy, and your stress levels in check. In the long run, that steady approach wins every time.
